About Repair Cafés

We are part of the international movement of repair cafes, dedicated to combating waste, sharing skills and bringing communities together

The first repair café was set up by Martine Postma in Amsterdam in 2009, as a response to the huge amount of stuff that is thrown away every day. The Repair Café Foundation was launched in 2011 to support local groups in the Netherlands and beyond. In 2018, 1,653 repair café groups worldwide held nearly 20,000 meetings, preventing 350,000 kilos of waste.

We were very lucky to have been given advice about how to set up from Brian and the team at Chailey Repair Cafe. You can visit them or neighbouring events at Forest Row and Brighton, and more repair cafés are in development across East Sussex.
